Stacking Faults and its association with partial dislocations seem to bother me day in and day out.With regard to this I do not understand how Partial dislocations lead to stacking faults and not the Perfect ones.Similarly in this context Please explain me how the Vacancy agglomeration and interstitial agglomeration will be different in mechanism and will lead to different results.
The reason why a partial dislocation creates a stacking fault while a perfect one doesn't is related to the displacement of the atoms in the two cases. In case of a perfect dislocation, atoms move in a direction leading to identical sites; their burger's vector is what we call a translation vector of the lattice.
Meanwhile, partial dislocations have burger's vectors that do not classify as translation vectors. So the dislocation messes up the regular stacking of the plane, as illustrated in the image below, hence the creation of a stacking fault area.
