This is particularly with regard to "Equilibrium in heterogeneous systems",it is given that he stable phase forms of pure A and ppure B at a given temperature and pressure can be denoted as α and β respectively.Now what I really do not understand is,"The first step in drawing the free energy curve of the fcc α phase is therefore to convert stable bcc arrangement of B atoms into unstable fcc arrangement."Please explain me why it is so.
Some more context is required to answer this completely.
However, I would assume that one of the materials is in a body-centred-cubic arrangement in its stable pure form and face-centred-cubic in the mixture. If this is the case, one must transition to the fcc structure. However, stable fcc in this instance has a different energy level to stable bcc and hence when one transitions to fcc it is unstable.
However, my advice would be... do not worry about the specifics of the example in your thermodynamics, this will make grasping the concepts more difficult.
