What is the difference between effusion cell and sample holders in ordinary evaporators?

An effusion cell is a small thermal evaporator. They often consist of a Boron Nitride graphite heater or otherwise in which the target material is placed. They are used to deposit the material.
The sample holders would usually refer to the tooling which holds your substrates which you will be coating. For example a holder might be designed to hold glass microslides.

An effusion cell is one in which the required material is released in controlled manner to be deposited on the substrates.The best use of effusion cells are in the MBE deposition system to deposit epitaxial thin films.
The sample holders are used used to hold the substrates such as Glass,silicon etc. For evaporation systems there are holders which can rotate for uniform collection of the material.

Are you looking for new or second hand?
How large is the system you require?
What are your likely substrates and area?
How many sources would you need?
What is your budget (this is important since it could effect what you can or cannot achieve)

I am looking for a new one. The system should be capable of handling samples of sizes 1cmx1cm to 15cmx15cm (for research purpose) and requires two sources.
I look for a basic system that can deposit small molecules since my thermal evaporator is not capable of evaporating organic materials with precise control. As you said, budget is the most important aspect. Depending on the cost of the equipment, I can ask the funding agency for required amount. But I am going for a low-budget with most required optional accessories.

It would also be good if you could indicate what you mean my low-budget, because the term 'low budget' is relative - I could spend my time specifying options for a $250k system which would be considered low budget for one person but very expensive for another.
Yes, you are right. $250K is expensive for me too. Presently, to start with, I can go only up to $35K. I will be depositing a few novel organic small molecules which we will be synthesizing in our lab. I shall PM you the details What is your email address?
I have a similar question. We have a thermal evaporator that we use for depositing metal electrodes (Al,Ca,Ag,MoO3). Can we use this evaporator for organic small molecules? Will it contaminate the chamber?

It depends...
You certainly can use it with other materials if you have appropriate thermal boats, however for small organic molecules you may require very low powers.
In theory yes you can use a normal evap system if the substance will evaporate. If you use too much power or the material will decompose before reaching an evaporation temperature - you will produce other products which may or may not contaminate your chamber.
I would try to work out what are the likely decomposition products and proceed with caution. If you system is easy to clean - go for it, give it a try - otherwise try to evaporate it in atmosphere after determining nothing dangerous would be created if it decomposes. If it can evaporate in atmosphere it will almost certainly work in the evaporator under vacuum - otherwise it may not.
Either way, even if it does work, due to the low melting point of many of these compounds they MIGHT 'contaminate' the chamber anyway - so you would need to clean it before going back to your other materials.
