We prepared a Cu-based photocathode for PEC water splitting. We measure a photocurrent density as well as O₂ gas evolution. However, we couldn't obtain H₂ gas evolution. But, reference papers reported H₂ gas evolution. Although we also followed the same procedure as the reference paper, we were unable to obtain H₂ gas.
Could you please share your opinion on this phenomenon?

Hello Periyasamy Anushkkaran sir,
Cu- Based photocathodes can suffer from oxidation or surface recombination, even if photocurrent is detected electron transfer to the electrolyte may be insufficient. To resolve this Add a co-catalyst onto the Cu surface to promote HER and also there is a chance for corrosion under PEC conditions.
