Cumulative energy demand of a product (also called ‘primary energy consumption’) represents the direct and indirect energy use throughout the life cycle (or a part of the life cycle), including the energy consumed during the extraction , manufacturing, and disposal of the raw and auxiliary materials.
gross energy intensity represents total consumption of a particular energy source(s) or fuel(s) divided by unit level. so the gross energy intensity is a ratio (energy/....) but CED not.
Intensity is probably measured in terms of the total amount of energy used to produce the economic output whereas energy demand is measured in terms of conventional energy units. That's the basic difference.
