in Central Europe signal horns / bugles made of pottery were widely used by pilgrims. Fragments of ceramic horns published by Uwe Gross may date to the 13th century:

I saw several examples in the south of France, but not this two. Very interesting, about functions (in pilgrim and village spheres), and in the similar dated period. I really appreciate this information. Very useful. I will use in the paper.

Thanks so much!!! I only studied directly the excellent work of Lionel Dieu of those, but no the other references. (The first web is almost all based on those works, but interesting notes, even with some new photographs).

Interesting too the reference of the book of Magnusdottir from the literature area, an other perspective to complete and understand wider the horns, indeed. In this field I have read only the book of Avinoam Shalem: The oliphant: Islamic objects in historical context, Leiden; Boston, Brill [Islamic history and civilisation. Studies and texts, 54], 2004:

P.D: I will send you a copy in pdf of the paper when it be published. I promise. I hope to show an other interesting example of this type in archaeological record. With 40 fragments of the same piece, we can draw an archaeological section of more than 40 cm of length (missed ending part, "pavillon", but with the elaborated mouthpiece complete, and holes for hanging in a place)... Maybe pastes analysis (in preparation) could reveals some interesting parameters of production

Nevertheless, I must to read the papers very carefully, but in the first preview, I am seeing an incredible spread of new detections in central europe and in UK (I just only knowing a few) and the factories (potter's workshop) in the work of Haasis-Berner. Amazing!

Ok. Thanks. I take this into account. I must (or at least try) review the archaeological context, (date, etc.) of the horns, because, as I am afraid and you notice me, maybe not all are well dated in the same parameters of the first half of the 13th c.

Anyway, and with caution, very useful for understand better this archaeological record, spread, etc.
