i think traditional spectrophotometer is larger UV spectrophotometer device, such as GeneQuant. It requires 10 ul to 70 ul of DNA samples, and really expensive cuvette (if scratched or broken, must buy new one ~up to 2500$)
Well, I am using eppendorf BioPhotometer Plus with 50ul of DNA for my assays on Luminex. It works fine, no issues. Alternatively Nanodrop can also be used where the accuracy is not so important (+ or - up to 10% error).
I've used Nanodrop for years, than another lab got an Implen - and Implen has shown at least with the Pearl a much better stability of repeat measures, especially with very small samples pipetted. If you can choose, I'd say go with Implen, I much prefer their technology now over Nanodrop machines.
