I would like to observe changes in gene expression in response to treatment with certain compounds taking into account effects of metabolites. I therefore need a liver model for this. Which cell line would be better suited, C3A or HepG2? The only real difference I see between them is that C3A cells don't grow when confluent, and can grow in glucose-free media. Based on this, I could go for either cell line, unless I am missing something?

HepG2 works well. Works for cytotoxicity and mutagenicity monitoring and can also be used to monitor specific gene activation such as Cytochrome P450 and metallothionein.
Thank you for your input. While both cell lines could be used as a liver model, why would one pick one cell line over the other (since HepG2/C3A is just a derivative of HepG2) given the little difference between the two?
