I am now studying nano composites and trying to develope a new renovation material by adding both nano particles like graphen and micro pacrticles like corund and carbides. There is a tun of researche on this topic but what I dont get is the high harned in most articles and even by some casual epoxy products. In most cases its 70 - 80 Shore D and I just dont belive any polimer could have the same hardnes as steel. I tested a comertial mix of bisphenol A and some monomer, after curing for a week the hadness was of the shore chart, in fact I messured on it just 30 Vickers...
Could please somebody explain to me how to understand this ?
I believe that you will not achieve the hardness you need for a composition with epoxy resin. It is an organic bond with long chains. To increase the hardness, it is necessary to use inorganic powders as a binder and to bind the sintering process.
In my case, the hardness isnt such important aspect, more relevant here is strength and tribological performance. But I would like to remake the composite described in this paper:

Its mentioned here that the epoxy on its own has 82 Shore D and the grafene increses it only by 3 points.
