There are some excellent articles that look at the various degrees of risk tolerance in the acute health care. These articles look at the cost of doing business and determining if the organization can risk the cost and the possible liability that comes with implementing new treatments. The articles recommend that the organization look at the population it serves and whether this population would tolerate the risks. Insurance funding is taken into consideration for implementing more at risk treatments and business ventures. For example, would the organization consider adding to it's catastrophic insurance level? If the answer is no, then the risk appetite tolerance prevents the implementation of more risky treatments.
