I would like to know the possible mechanism of action of marine algal polyphenols on pathogenic fungi (for example Phlorotannin), polysaccharides ( alginates, fucoidans and laminaran), protein and peptides and fatty acids. Kindly provide me the required details.
Marine algae derivatives have shown promise as candidates in novel, antimicrobial drug discovery. The efficacy of these compounds and their application as antibiotics and diinfectants are well reviewed.
Bioactive compounds extracted from Fungi and Algae have antimicrobial activities via effect in the permeability of the cell membrane, Protein synthesis, DNA damage, Cell wall structure, and Biochemical activities.
Dear Dr. Abdulridha Sarhan and Dr. Hussein J Hussein thanks for your answers. But, it would be good if any review articles availed on the mechanism of action.
As antimicrobial agents, they disturb the structure of cell wall, interfer with the production of essential proteins and may be with the transformation of nucleic acids.
