We are currently wrapping up a review on the cardiac phenotype in mouse (or other animal?) models of Lupus, RA and SSc. We have identified lots of information, but literature search is challenging because although the models are being routinely used for mechanistic and/or therapeutic studies, the heart is rarely the main focus and won't come up in title and abstract.
If anybody on here has looked into the heart in their studies on induced/spontaneous/engineered models of SLE, RA and SSc, I'd love to hear from them!
Some 15-30% of mice of most strains considered models of SLE (i.e., MRL/lpr, BXSB, NZB/NZW, etc) have evidence of acute and/or chronic myocardial infarcts of either ventricle "judged extensive enough to be a contributing cause of death". [Theofilopoulos, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, 2nd ed., R.G. Lahita, ed, 1992, p.127]. Primary literature includes Acccinni and dixon, Am. J. Pathol., 96:477, 1979 and Hang, et. al., J. Exp. Med. 154:216, 1981.
