Although we have active projects on carbohydrate conversion in our group and with collaborators, these are focused on preserving the valuable functionalities and/or carbon chain lengths present in sugars to produce either fuel additives, such as alkyl levulinates and DMF, or platform chemicals such as furfuryl alcohol and FDCA, rather than degrading them to form short chain alcohols.
