We got experience!
Then afterwards many 'effective' drugs received licence and proved as toxic after performing business of 10- 15 years. Antibiotic Chloramphenicol, pain killers like Aspirin are such examples.

But Nimesulide in children, Diclofenac sodium in animals are some example of recent years.
Even it is said that the certified vaccine of Measles killed more people due to vaccination than the disease itself in USA!
Do you think our drug/ vaccine licencing system is perfect?
The countries responsible for their people are supposed to learn .In order to ensure the safety of their people, States should take care of their contracting bodies when importing medicines and vaccines, such as the adoption of the most advanced pharmaceutical and vaccine agencies such as the US Food and Drug Administration, the European Commission for Quality Assurance of Medicines and other accredited bodies.

All those medicines were licenced by those high graded Pharmacological agencies!
Although quite unfortunate incidences but at a second thought they might be excused if you are in the field of medicinal chemistry. Thalidomide indeed worked but contains racemic mixtures that caused birth defects.
Nowadays, the process of drug approval from discovery to clinical trials takes a period of 10yrs or above which tends to $1.6-1.8 billion US dollars just for one drug. This is a measure to check that such unfortunate incidence are prevented.

In Iraq we suffer from this problem, since most medicines and vaccines come from unsound origins, although they are documented as manufactured in countries with a reputation known in this area. This is due to the agreement of medicines dealers with the manufacturers in those countries.
Following now. What is the value of such agreement of medicine dealers with manufacturer ?
Normally when a drug is discovered it has to go through certain stages
1. Animal studies If safe then
2. In human normal volunteers if proven safe
3. A limited patient group the drug is developed for if proven effective
4. A relatively larger patient group if results are good with nosignificant side effects then
5.FDA approval for throughing the drug into market
6. Post marketing surveillance worldwide with many clinicians and hospital looking for any major incidence inpatient s using this agent if proven any abnormality reported the drug will be withdrawn from the market by FDA if no major abnormal event is reported the drug will continue its journey
I personally think it to be a very sound system until some data are kept hidden or reported wrongly that will not be calculated as system fault
No we did not learn, still pumping budgets to multinational companies to produce pharmaceutical compounds, with budgets and research limited on their side effects

'Where there is some effect, there is definitely some side effect/s.No drug can act on any single organ or system due to presence of same receptor in many organs.The medicines are selected for use where effects are great but side effects are negligible'.
It is perhaps the principle of selection of a compound as medicine.
As per my idea, the side effects are studied for short term use to know acute or instantly showing side effects, not the chronic effect or effects like slow poisons.
The study models may not be efficient enough to represent the complex system of human physique and so many side effects are remain untraced.
It is my idea.

The global industry have made more mistakes than it should. However, when physician prescribes the aspirin dose aftermath one infart episode he is just aplying the rule of 10 years to the patient survivorship. Best regards. Walter

I didn't think that we learned from Thalidomide episode Because we are still taking medicines without a prescription from the doctor, which is constantly endangering our lives .
I think that humanity has been addicted of taking unnecessary medicines. We should make our life systems more healthy. Only technology is not enough for health.
