Bog, marsh, swamp, fen, moor, muskeg, quagmire, mire, morass, etc. — some of these are used interchangeably, some are preferred regionally to others, some mark subtle distinctions or have different connotations, some are ambiguous in a wetland context, some also have special technical senses. Has anyone discussed such terms in a systematic analytical fashion?
You might find Translating nature terminology by W. Kasprzak helpful as of the terms are discussed in it. The book analyses those terms from the viewpoint of translation, which is not exactly what you seem to focus on but that is the only book I know of that deals with those terms.
