There have been a lot of research in Theoretical Geophysics in the past like Plate boundaries, Earth's interior, Seismology etc. But has there been any theoretical Geophysics analysis of Landslides in particular, as to how these earlier research topics are connected to Landslides.

concerning rockfalls, at my knowledge the use of microseismic techinques has been for the first time investigated by Obert and Duvall (1942). They observed the “ground vibration” process in the field, studying the seismicity of rock-bursts in mines and tunnels. The idea was that the formation and propagation of cracks in rock materials is accompanied by a sudden release of stored elastic energy that propagates in the form of elastic waves. Nowadays many studies investigate rock failure process and the seismic precursory patterns leading to collapse (e.g., Lockner,1993; Dixon et al., 2003; Kolesnikov et al., 2003; Amitrano et al., 2005) and many efforts have consequently been devoted to the development of reliable rock slope monitoring systems based on this approach (Senfaute et al., 2009; Arosio et al., 2009; Levy et al., 2011; Coviello et al. 2015). Dear Dr Coviello
I shall start off by thanking you for these interesting publications, my current literature review involves study of Seismically triggered landslides and microseismics seems very relevant. I was also wondering if i have to consider the energy that will be stored in the material (rock) during previous earthquake contribute to a rockslide as such. If these act as source of a micro quakes then is it possible that even without any earthquake due to movement of tectonics, there can be a rock slide or a rock fall.
Please let me know more about this.

Dear Aadityan, try any textbook on engineering geology and look for failure conditions, that means.:When does the shear stress due to the weight of a rock mass exceed the normal stress across a plane of weakness. An old classic e.g. is Elasticity, Fracture and Flow by J.C. Jaeger, Methuen London, 1969.
