Thermal reduction improve the quality of rGO and one more thing is that an article from Nature resembles that sodium-ammonia solution reduces the GO into good quality of rGO
I'm trying to reduce graphene oxide to RGO by Zn not to form hybird of them. i'm still confuse about the mechanism of reduction when GO reduced by Zn. When i search some paper abaut this problem, i just found 2 paper that related to that.
Yes, I have synthesized rGO by the reduction of Zn/acids. Not only Zn, GO can be reduced by various low reduction potentials metal, like Ni, Zn, Al, Fe, Mg etc. The basic mechanism behind that, the reaction was performed in generally acidic medium. So, the H+ ions react with the metal and liberated nascent hydrogen, which was responsible for the reduction of GO. For the proper mechanisms, you should go through the following ref.
Reduction of GO by Fe: ACS Nano, vol 5, No, 1, page 191-198, 2011
thank you for your answer. I combine reducing GO by Zn powder and Hydrothermal process. beside that i make a variety on adding zn powder. i want to ask your opinion mr barun, in the my reference journal the zn powder that used is 0,8 gr. and then i used 1,6 gr. is will be the huge effect of my adding zn powder for the result? for example in the xrd result.
I didn't get what you want to finally. You want to reduced the GO or making composite with the Zn/rGO? If you increases the amount of Zn in hydrothermal process, I don't think so there will be change in the XRD patterns.
I am suggesting you that, you can get highly reduced graphene oxide by reduced by Zn. So take water dispersion GO in a container, then you add excess Zn in the solution. After that you add the 5-10M H2SO4 solution. When you added this two, you will see that, lots of H2 gas bubbled will be come out from the reaction mixture and all the GO will be coagulate. Still added the Acids, when all the Zn can be etched. When all the Zn will be removed, then you will get the black precipitate.
Dear Mr barun. could you send me the xrd result and SEM or AFM image of your graphene. because i confused with my xrd result. i get the black precipitate and then the black precipitate dried with hydrothermal methode.
I don't have the XRD results of rGO, reduction by Zn. But I have the SEM images.
I will send it you. I am again suggesting you that, not required any hydrothermal methods. You collect the black precipitate by washing with excess acid followed by ethanol. Then it will be dried in under lamp (65-70) degree Celsius.Than collect the product for characterization.
