Burn outcomes with potential therapeutic modalities in mice and rats certainly have not predicted outcomes in humans, i.e. a series of clinical trials with anticoagulants based on rodent results failed in humans.
Very important article to keep in mind when evaluating published material on inflammation, wound healing and burns in mice. However, mouse models are extremely useful for defining many genetic deficiencies in humans.
Thank you, interesting point and interesting paper. Our very small contribution to this discussion: normal mice are different from normal men. For example, we detected keratoepithelin (TGFBI, induced by Transforming Growth Factor Beta, a.k. as BIGH3) expression in normal human muscle while in mice there was none. The gene seems to be upregulated in dystrophic human muscle while in mice we still don't know exactly...:)
