In this Era we live,we need more and more goods , technology has made an advancement and if we do not join this generation , there will be a gap. Human consumerism has increased , human competition , acquisition of wealth is a must not for the proletarian but for the bourgeoisie class known also as the capitalist class. Those proletarian will work more and more to obtain what those capitalist consume but it is only a myth.Society has noticed that there is something that man has done so long since the beginning of time is ...to consume to survive... The more he consumes , the better he will be. For example since cave Man survival , the hunt and gather for food , and the more they got , the better it is for them. In the modern age also , man consume more and more because they no more want to be alienated from the goods that they produce to some extent. Knowing what a grotesque monstrosity this country would become Man will gather and consume more, because it is the nature of human being and we cannot deny it. :)
I agree that Man has to consume in order to survive, but that's not totally the concept of consumerism. I believe consumerism is more about obtaining more goods and services that are apart from the "basic needs" ( food, clothes and shelter) of a normal individual. Here, it is more about trying to achieve a maximum of goods even if they are not useful to the person, but just to show the others and to boast around about the wealth and possessions that one could gather be it with wrong or rights means!
Do you believe that that's the ultimate goal Man should aim at? Doesn't he/ she has a responsibility towards Nature, towards the environment that's sustaining his/her survival? We should not forget that we're deriving these goods and services from Nature ( the very basic thing : Fuel to run the companies of whichever product it is). And we do so, very sadly by plundering the resources excessively, is that we aim at, to just fill our bellies and our bank accounts without a thought of how Humanity will perpetuate without any respect towards Nature? --'
ow! you based youself on i believe?? In the society when you consume , Marxist perspective never told you to replace because you already know the process of consumerism.I have answered based on the question you have asked. you haven't asked for the respect that man should have towards nature !.And you have asked how far do you agree??. I had given my point of view and there's no need for you to be sarcastic --' The topic you have asked has been tagged in a sociology , so next time ,untag it ;)
I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything i said sarcastically, i was just putting some thoughts. I'm sorry if you were offended. And I didn't think that the sociology page was yours. I just wished to have people's views on the subject from all aspects. Anyway, thank you for your response.
