'Algal paper' is formed when filamentous green algae become concentrated in a gradually drying pool, eventually forming a felt which bleaches white as it dries. It is known from Irish temporary pools ('turloughs') and elsewhere, but its formation has not been much investigated. Canadian work has observed the same process in salt-marshes. I think its formation and impact on the associated invertebrates is of interest. Best wishes for 2018, Julian Reynolds
