I am a graduate student in search of an instrument that would allow me to assess how perceptions of aggression might be moderated by age of perpetrators/victims.
My targeted research desire is to find a tool accommodates the manipulation of age in assessing the severity of acts upon victims of aggression. That's proving to be a real challenge.
My mentor suggested finding an instrument with validated acts of aggression and then instructing participants to rate the severity of those acts assuming they were perpetrated on a 12-year-old, or a 47-year-old, etc.
Has there been any prior work removing the term "partner" from your conflict assessment? Would you allow that?

Terri: I have not conducted research on general aggression, so I probably cannot help you. I would suggest that you investigate research on peer aggression, and on bullying. The CTS would not be very useful.

The Conflict Tactics Scale is not a good scale to use because its construct validity has been questioned. It does not distinguish between playing around or "horse play" and violence, which involves power and control tactics. You might like to take a look at Sherry Hamby's work. She has carried out considerable work on violence and aggression and has used scales that have better validity:
