Hi, I am after a protocol for this if possible. I know that there are no meristems in banana peel, but I was wondering whether it can be de-differentiated into a callus and then maybe shoots or roots induced. Sure, it would be faster to use the pseudostem which has meristem tissue in it, but I was after something that could be done for students using a fruit shop and high school laboratory.

I did Banana tissue culture using the meristem from pseudostem. also, I noticed that some of them successfully used leaf tissues. but I am really dought on a banana peel. you are going to use some peel from the market. when it comes to the market most of them having yellow color peel and almost their active cells are deteriorating. so I don't think you can have a good result. so at least go for the green color peel.
Dear Leon! You might be able to regenerate plants from immature flower buds by using different concentrations of TDZ to try. There is one article that I remember and I'll post for you if I get it...Caulljs formation is possible from the immature flower buds which are located within < 1 cm from tip of the Male bud. When it comes to the peel it is already differentiated and rich in starch. If you put it on a semi solid or liquid medium it will start to produce phenol compounds then will become browned finally die. I doubt if you get good results.
