I read a publication that speaks about FAS17 being used with simple solgel method .It had facile process , transparent , 150+WCA but lacked durability of scratch resistance and mechanical abrasion .
Should there be a binder/polymer present in system to add durability of ethanol based FAS17 Chemistry ?
Your question seems to be incomplet. More than you procedure exists, what kind of thickness, what kind of glass, pretreatment/cleaning (?), application ...
I think you mean the silane (heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetrahydro)decyl-triethoxysilane (=FAS17).
Silanes have the potential to covalently link to the surface of a SiO2 contaning substract. If your coating result in a perfect monolayer (e.g. as performed by us using a straightforward gas phase process) the durability without stress should be good. In this case the scratch resistance and mechanical abrasion are the one of the substrate (and the coating is gone, too thin the protect the substrate)
