In cases it is based on only 4 citation and in some cases it is more then 6? Any body help to describe in details on what criteria it depends except citations?
The number of papers received citations and minimum number of papers achieved that number, is H index. Eg If you have 30 papers and 13 papers cited by various researchers. So number articles got more than 13 citations is your H-index. If in your list 5 papers got minimum 13 or more than 13 citations means your h-index is 5. And those articles got citations more than 10, that number of papers is your i-index.

Most common ways to improve h-index is to publish review articles, participate in bigger multi-center research projects, self-citation, etc.
However, all these are just stupid. Very subjective.
