Thank you.Centre of excellence needs to be created in universities and technical institutes. Selection procedure needs to be done through prominent academics and head of technical education using suitable criteria like Infrastructure,results,academic research,quality publication etc.More funds may be spent in the centre of excellence which will give more credibility,autonomy and prestige.

Indeed, the Centre of excellence needs to be created in universities and technical institutes - however, and in line with Guptara's (2010) suggestion that Fundamental and even applied research needs to be liberated from the trammels of private sponsorship. Thus, such centres need to be fully funded by the university itself... which might prove to be difficult!

Dear Theodora,

This suggestion of abolishing representative democracy would always remain a mirage. It can never be implemented. In every democratic country, party dictatorship is the reality. We all know that. There will always be no dearth of people in any democratic country to support such dictatorship of the ruling party. Therefore, such a suggestion is hardly of any use.

I might like to see our planet without any international boundaries. However, such a suggestion is of no meaning, because such a thing is not possible!

There exist an example: Swiss cantons with referendums for every theme. By using internet it could be possible to vote for everything, but then the lobbies will lose their benefits, that's the barrier.

Excellent question Theodora however in the realm of a greedy world where all the opposites of the seven suggestions occur! The Swiss declared their neutrality years back a fact that allowed them to create a system of order inside their boundaries. The question, what if there is an external power that has interest in Switzerland, may be things will change for them. However, since the Swiss offer a neutral ground for capitals in their banks, so this could be a deterring factor to many countries who are benefiting!

The world needs a global revolution then these 7 principles will work, otherwise the fight among nations for supremacy and influence will continue.

With all the aforementioned said, it does not mean that each one of use can start his/her own circle of influence believing in the 7 principles or at least in the benefits these will bring with time.

Time is the greatest witness.

Dear Theodora Issa,

Regarding the implementation of these seven steps, the most important step seems to be the Seventh one (Fundamental reforms needed in the global economy). This can be implemented only with strong political will power and support from the public and other major stakeholders. Having implemented the seventh, implementing the Sixth step (global minimum wages / guarantees) might be relatively easy. So also is the case of the Fifth step (liberation of research from private ownership). The first three steps can be implemented only over a period of time and that too on a phased manner, as these are all rather "idealistic" in nature than practical; but these are all excellent propositions if they could be practically attained. The Fourth step (direct democracy instead of political parties..) seems to be the most difficult step as far as its implementation is concerned.

Thank you for responding - indeed, it is a MIRAGE, but the idea of the swiss people is nice by Demetris - however, comes Hussin and I know what he is talking about - it seems he is talking about the case currently engulfing some parts of the world... and interest of others in the countries which is bringing chaos! However, if we have a real democracy and no LOBBYING groups - we will be able to go for the MIRAGE! I believe... but, this might be difficult unless we human being become selfless! which is hardly the case... wherever you go...

Well, it seems that Manoj had provided a way to go through them (from the seventh up) but also agrees with Hemanta that the democracy issue is difficult.

It sounds very strange to assume, that social considerations of Darwin and Nietzsche could explain today’s phenomena of worldwide globalization.

I think the potential answers to your questions by individuals without sound background in sociology will not help Professor Guptara's to “enrich” his research project. I assume that Professor Guptara is using some sort work hypothesis with some sort of system approach.

Taking a historical view he may also consider an evolutionary approach.

I am discussing similar themes over here in Germany. As a base of discussion I have summarized some thoughts in an essay which describes different levels of human consciousness (from natural to social structures) to be considered when one tries to find answers to the raised questions with some chance to reflect the real world.

‘Globalization’, when viewed as the “summative function of all term which describes the multiplication and intensification of nearly all forms of human relatedness” -- remains inevitable. The importance of globalization is less in end-states than in relational qualities.

The problem however lies in what input dominate in shaping and synthesizing the “human relatedness”. For now, the dominant actor in shaping the norms and culture of Globalization seems to be the West. Indeed, the epoch of globalization has simplified both our national and class identity: splitting the world as – the West and the Rest, or the bourgeoisie and the proletariat.

Thus the answer lies in making space for other cultures and civilizations to break in shaping and synthesizing the relational aspects of globalization. Increasing (undisturbed) inputs from different cultures and norms could rationalize the current (self destructing) trend of globalization. Indeed, Guptara’s assertion doesn't look too distant from Laozi’s suggestions: “Act naturally without desire, then everything will be accomplished in its natural order.”(Tao Te Chi, Chapter 3)

The problem however lies in how to operationalize such a near Utopian idea. This in my view needs reform at both agency and structural levels of our society. Reform at the structural level needs to focus on ensuring equity, stability and sustainability. At the actor level true self enlightenment could liberate us.

In sum, reduce singular dominance on the inevitable process of globalization and reform at the agency and structural level is perhaps the key to materializing Guptara’s 7 pints.
