Hello everyone,

I am currently in my third year of a BSc (Hons) Computer Science with AI degree. My long-term goal is to pursue a research career in Computer Science, especially in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, and eventually aim for a professorship.

So far, I have:

Maintained a strong academic record (on track for First Class Honors).

Published one academic paper in AI.

Completed internships and projects in Computer Vision and Backend Development.

My plan is:

  • Complete my current degree with First Class Honors.
  • Publish more research papers (preferably in AI/CV or related areas).
  • Apply for fully funded opportunities abroad (Master’s with scholarships, or directly to a PhD program with RA/TA funding).
  • Prepare for requirements like GRE/TOEFL if needed.
  • Reach out to potential supervisors to find research fit.
  • My questions to the community:

    • Is this plan solid enough to secure a full-ride scholarship (through RA, TA, or competitive fellowships)?
    • Which research areas in AI/Computer Vision are currently promising for graduate applications and publication?
    • For applications: is it more effective to cold-email professors first, or directly apply to universities?
    • Which universities/programs (English-medium, research-intensive, with strong AI/CS focus) are realistic to target for a fully funded position?

I would deeply appreciate advice from those who have gone through this - PhD students, early-career researchers, or faculty.
