Guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) plays an important role in maintaining fluid ion homeostasis and genomic integrity in intestinal cells and serves as the receptor for the diarrheagenic heat-stable enterotoxin (ST) as well as endogenous ligands guanylin and uroguanylin. The major site of expression of GC-C is in the gastrointestinal tract, although this receptor and its ligands play a role in ion secretion in other tissues as well. Some investigators have suggested that the almost exclusive intestinal expression of GC-C could serve as a marker for colon carcinoma metastasis in tissues other than the gut. Basu et al has shown that GC-C is a substrate for inhibitory phosphorylation by c-src resulting in reduced ligand-mediated cGMP production.

I have to design a project on the GC-C and its consequent affect of CRC carcinogenesis; Can anyone suggest the line of work and which molecule or pathway should we look into?
