Display behavior suddenly pectoris, or chest display, as what I call in my ethograms in the study of gorillas in captivity; I wonder if this behavior is innate or learned? At what age begin hatchlings make their first displays?
In my study subjects, there are two babies, one of them just turned 1 year, and I've seen make their first and attempted coups display pectoris, but very clumsily; also to make their 1st coprofagia, but very little tendency to eat their droppings.

sorry I don 't know about research in E.G. I did a brief google and found nothing. You might contact Ape Action Africa, in Cameroon, with that question.
There is still substantial debate on whether gorilla (and other primates') gestures are learned or innate or some combination. Definitely read ALL of Joanne's papers. The Genty paper she recommended does a good just of summarizing the current debate and the support for the various positions (and has a lot of good references that will help you move forward).
