In my view, face-to-face education should be preserved as much as possible. Virtuality has some benefits that have been studied in the situation caused by the pandemic. But we must be clear that if we allow the expansion of online education we will be giving strong reasons to administrations and companies to eliminate face-to-face training in order to reduce costs. In online training, the cost of personnel is greatly reduced. Are there methodological reasons for hybrid education? There are a few. Are there political and economic reasons? Too many. Let's protect face-to-face education.
From my point of view, teachers need to be very aware of the individual needs of their classes. Distance learning requires a strong sense of self-directed learning, focus and self-discipline, as well as technical knowledge and equipment. Neither of these should be taken for granted in all students, otherwise there will be winners and losers simply because the conditions for success are not fair. Generally, I see those problems with young learners, but you will find an uneven distribution of these skills in all classes.
On the other hand, online education also offers great opportunities and better prepares students for the future world of work. Also, surveys of students show that many are in favor of hybrid classes.
So if you are going to use online education in a hybrid mode, make sure you support your students upfront in practicing the necessary soft skills and self-directed learning and give them the individual support they need. And be aware that distance learning does not work for all students and they should not draw any disadvantages from it.
I hope my answer can contribute to finding clarification. It remains a complex issue.
I agree with Daniel Bores-García . This situation we are living in is creating space for the precariousization of work, especially in education (which can result in an "uberization" of education). With the enormous losses resulting from a lighted, distant, decontextualized education, without the necessary moments of socialization (which are part of the education process). I also found very pertinent the observations of Pia Gebbing . A pedagogical contribution that guides us in this learning process that we are going through, in an attempt to offer a minimally adequate education to our young people, in the face of an unforeseen situation for all of us who deal with education.
