Besides all the limitations in the treatment of oncological patients, there are some very positive aspects. I am always surprised how patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) may respond to imatinib treatment. Just one case we had a short time ago.
This is a 56 years old female patient. The first diagnosis of a GIST of the gastrooesophageal junction was made in 2004, followed by surgery. Now the patient has a recurrent tumor (see fig.). Treatment with imatinib was initiated and the follow up PET-CT three months after onset of treatment revealed a very good response.
