Dear all,

I want to simulate artificial grassland communities in an area with a pre-definded species pool. The community shall be dominated by only few dominant species that occur together with multiple non-dominant species. The species are distributed homogeneously over the area, however, their natural distribution is never simply random. There is no environmental gradient in the area.

What probability function can be used to describe the distribution of the species within such an grassland community? Any experiences with that?

I am not looking for way to model large-scale species distributions (like with SDMs) but want to do simulations on a more local scale (within a given habitat f.e.).

Thanks a lot for you time!
