If the minimum practical bandwidth of the signal is 8 MHz what should be the minimum sampling rate while receiving this signal, to avoid aliasing?
In my case, I have stored this signal with the help of USRP front-end setting its sampling rate to 5 MHz and I was able to acquire and track the signal successfully. Also, I have read people doing it with it even 4 MHz sampling frequency. Can someone explain?
Generally speaking, it is not possible to reconstruct the signal if you break the nyquist criteria; but the question here is that, do you actually need to reconstruct the signal? In case of CDMA (and many other new techniques) you don't reconstruct. In these techniques you just try to guess about it. So not following the specs only affects your guessing accuracy, and with sufficient signal power, you can guess it very well.
Also note here that galileo E1 codes are at 1MSPS, so by sampling at 4 or 5 MSPS, nyquist for the ranging code is not violated.
