Future projection of current Covid 19 Pandemic
What is your opinion on the future projection of the current pandemic situation ?
Will this be just one of its kind of global crisis which will eventually pass and we will study it just as a chapter in the history of mankind or it will change the entire world and its functioning?
I think we will reach community immunity through natural infection and vaccinations. The rate of infection will drop down, but it will stay (no virus in human history was eradicated except for smallpox). It will be similar to influenza (not comparing severity, just cultural thoughts and policy).
Truly a philosophical question! The pandemic has to come to an end sometime and we will just have to learn how to coexist with the virus just like influenza.
Future of COVID-19 pandemic: It ain't over till it's over
It may take years for the COVID-19 pandemic to transform to an endemic and seasonal disease resulting from the combined effects of COVID-19 vaccinated population and SARS-CoV-2 exposure leading to a sufficient herd immunity in the world population. Even then there will be pockets of new SARS-CoV-2 variants causing flares from time to time in certain areas and countries of the world.

Similar to influenza it is likely that COVID-19 will eventually become endemic.
The limited access to vaccination in the developing world and the lifting of travel restrictions means that the transformation from the current epidemic to a seasonal disease is likely to take years.

We have to strike a balance between accepting endemicity ie living with the virus and chasing after every single COVID case including asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic cases ie COVID zero; until then……
