Our forest bestows hundreds of non timber forest products. But very few are recognized and utilized. Whether govt should come forward to encourage forest farming or not ??
Ya yes...as millions of poor people livelihood depends on the ntfp especially tribal areas of central India. The role of middleman's is very influential and exploitable. Collection of ntfp provides seasonal employment and that too very negligible income. Policy should provide practical answers not theoretical. Forest farming is very controversial issue. How to provide rights as we are having forest right act. In the limelight of this, gov can provide well defined channel for Agroforestry or community forestry areas.
A sustainable system for exploiting non-timber resources is defined as one in which fruits nuts, latexes, and other products can be harvested indefinitely from a limited area of forest with negligible impact on the species being exploited.
