Virgen de Fatima is an Marian apparition in Fatima, Portugal, in 1912, in a cave to 3 young shepherds. Virgen de Fatima was then considered as the flag for virtuous armies against godless Republicans in Portugal. In Spain, most conservative elements of the Church actively promoted the cult of Fatima, as a great way to fight Republican Godless Communism, because supposedly, the Fatima lady told the shepherds to pray for Russia and Bolshevik revolution happened 6 months later. When Germany invaded Russia in 1941, some in Spain considered Fatima's words had turn true. The Catholic popes John Paul II, Benoit XVI and Francis all recognized the supernatural nature of the Fatima lady and events.

I don't believe there has been much paid to this juxtaposition, and it is rather obvious in feminist world history. If you are looking at the Cult of Mary, and essentially a cult of Fatima in Islam in the medieval period or in the early modern period it would be a good project. I am familiar with the Christian documents but not the Islamic. I do know that Islam is very respectful to Mary as the mother of Christ, and Fatima seems to be the natural legacy of Mary in Islam from what I have read in the Quran. So, I believe it would be a wonderful and natural fit for women in world history to do a study of this kind, and I am not aware of it being done in any depth. If it has I too would love to read it.

I have not seen European studies comparing the personality of Fatima bint Prophet Muhammad and the personality of the Virgin Mary. But the idea of this research is beautiful and can be compared to the fact that they share in chastity, piety and high faith. God has preferred them to the women of the worlds. They also share the high reverence and respect accorded by Christians to Mary and the Muslims of Fatima, as well as to the righteous slaves of God.

For some similarities between Mary and Fatma, you can read the islamist Louis Massignon, but it is not a recent research, like anothers of ther same author on affinities between both religions.

I think the apparition of Fatima are of 1917, in midst of I War Mondial. Portuguese Republicl was belligerant in the ranks of the Entente ("Allies"), but all the Portuguese dont agree with envoying soldiers to dye in France, laicist nation.
