We are doing a longitudinal study on the tongues of lean and obese zucker rats. I wanted to study the gene expression of certain fat transporters in the tongue to see how they vary in lean/obese zucker rats as they gain weight over time.
Anyone have any ideas/publications to help? I have come across CD36 and GPR120 as possibilities, as well as Glut4. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

CD36 is a good candidate, but did you looked at the leptin receptor gene, the trigger to get between lean or fat rats?

Yes that is one we are strongly considering... The obese genotype (fa/fa) have a defect in leptin signaling that inhibits/prevents satiety. It still may be worth looking at the receptor though. Do you have idea which specific receptor gene to look at as a candidate?
Any other fat transporting receptor genes you can think of?

I would say all receptors around the insulin, as IR and IRS1, but mostly associated in insulin secretion.

That was a very helpful paper... A couple of candidate genes I found:
Daf-2 - which would have mammalian homologs of IR, IGF-1
Tub-1
Tph-1
Daf-2 I think is a good one from the paper since it is insulin mediated. The other two seem to be more associated with the nervous system- but still may be worth looking into
We are hoping to find around 5 candidate genes. Right now it seems that CD36 and Insulin receptor genes would be a good place to start. Do you have any other papers or insights that may be worth looking into?
