When submitting to some Elsevier journals, the Editorial Manager asks if you have data or methods that you'd like to submit separately as a "Research Element." I'm working on a manuscript with a fairly complex method, so we're considering using this option (i.e. including only a methodological summary in the main manuscript, and submitting the method details as an Element).
However, I haven't found much information about how this actually works. For instance, would the main manuscript and the accompanying Element be evaluated by the same editor and reviewers? Does the acceptance of the main manuscript depend on the acceptance of the Element? Can one be accepted and the other rejected, or one published before the other?
Just curious if anyone has used this option and what your experience was like. Thanks!
