many thanks for sharing this very interesting technical question with the RG community. The study of nanocomposites is clearly a hot topic in materials science. There are some really valuable literature references in which the electrodeposition of gold nanoparticles on ITO (indium tin oxide) substrates is reported. Normally the preparation of gold nanoparrticles starts with hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III) trihydrate (HAuCl4·3H2O) because this is the most readily available gold(III) precursor. I am using 0.5 mM HAuCl4 for electrodeposition of gold nanoparticles on ITO glass [ED condition: 0.2V to -1V, 50 mV/sec, 10 cycles].

What is the electrolyte to be used. I'm using FTO electrode. But without acid or base (in water as electrolyte) I am not getting any response

I have used 0.1 M KCL electrolytes for gold deposition on ITO. The presence of gold can be observed from the color change on the ITO electrode. Also, if you check the gold deposited ITO electrode under Ferri/Ferrocyanide solution, you can observe an increase in peak currents.

the different colors of electrodeposited gold nanoparticles have been addressed in the article "Electrodeposition of gold nanoparticles on ITO: Control of morphology and plasmon resonance-based absorption and scattering" which was already suggested. It is pointed out here that (citation) "Gold nanoparticles exhibit various colors due to localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR), which are dependent on the size and shape of the particles and refractive index of the surrounding medium." Thus in my opinion it cannot be definitively said what color your Au NPs will have. A typical color of gold nanoparticles in dispersion is red or purple.

I have deposited Au on FTO and ITO electrodes. But compared to polymer and polymer+Au electrodes, the latter is not having increased current density. what will be the possible reason and how can I solve it
