While I was discussing my nitrogen adsorption isotherms in the context of micropore, mesopores, total pore volume for activated carbon samples prepared from waste materials, I received a review ''This is not correct, as the mesoscale range between 500 um to 2-3 mm. While the scale in the SEM images cannot cover that. Instead, you have nano-pores which you are calling micropores ''.
I need clarification about this.
First of all, can you provide the isotherms? Just by its shape we have enough to discuss without using microscopies.
Second, by SEM is hard to visualize micropores, SEM won't provide you the resolution you need (2 nm), not just because of your sample, but by the equipments resolution we have nowadays.
Third, SEM does not provide a 3D image, the shadows you see in SEM are an artifact because of the position from the detector in the colunm, and the heights you think you're seeing, are probably charging effects, if you want a 3D image, go to AFM/STM
Fourth, beware of using BET theory in microporous materials, even the IUPAC report (2015) advises about this. The problem of Langmuir is not really the homogeneity of the surface, but the assumptions of chemical reactions that are not a reality at gas adsorption.
