Dear, The dynamic analysis of any component is done in physical domain if degree of freedom is less and modal domain if degree of freedom is large. In general software developed in modal domain due to preserving lower modal frequency generally important for dynamic analysis (dynamic behavior of system is preserved) of continuum structure. In modal domain mass normalization is used Phi^t M Phi= I , means mass is an identity matrix and stiffness matrix is diagonal matrix, and the columns of stiffness matrix are square of natural frequencies. So natural frequency is just modal frequency and is equal to square root of diagonal element of stiffness matrix provided that mass and stiffness matrices are symmetric.
