In almost a decade as academics,have seen all manner of attitudes from the academics and feel if they were properly trained before being staffed,they probably wouldn't have been like that. Don't you feel its high time our academic and research institutions give entry level training before staffing?
Entry level training is required
1. Before entry in MS,
2. Before entry in Ph D,
3. Before entry in any academic/research/ other service.
If a Ph D student have no idea about preparation of a research proposal, reading of related articles, techniques of writing of
article and thesis etc., s/he may fall in a sea of problems during research, particularly if the Guide/ Supervisor is not so efficient.

The entry level training is needed to facilitate people skills and competency. This can be in workshops, Seminars , test , tours and others.

I agree with you In fact many Universities now have a post-graduate diploma in higher education. I am not sure if there are any specific programs training researchers in the form of post graduate diplomas?
The B.Sc. M.Sc. PhD is sufficient training for anyone who wants to go into academics.
I think people need very good orientation which many universities provide for its new staff and sometimes retraining for older staff. The fact is that even if trained for the job, one can't learnt everything needed until the real Job starts. And that is where 'experience' comes in. No amount of training or even orientation can be enough. There are some things that are only learnt from experiencing them.

It wouldn't be a bad idea. It could be in form of workshop or seminar.
I agree with Makinde. But it is as the individual gets hands on experience on the job then he/she should be in a better position for PhD and academia.
Its better if our academic institutions organise a brief training programme for new employees.Be it academic or administrative. There are lots of funny attitudes and misconducts in citadel of learnings
Yes I share the same thought with you, there is need to have a sought of an orientation.
The entry training is a must. This is because during study years of a person he/she might not have had enough exposure about how to handle students, compose lectures, write grand winning proposal, talking large group of audience etc. However with training and mentoring he / she will acquire the necessary skills that could help him/ her discharge their duty deligently. As most of the skills are not learned during the MScs n PhDs.
