From my point of view 20-30 years ago it was possible to take any social sciences journal. to read and understand enirely at least half of its articles and to use it in Your own work. But now the nature of science has changed. You have a growing number of narrowly specialised articles and research, very often not having understandable meaning but only perfectly used quantitative methods. And no talk about use of it in Your work.. So, why to lie about all this interdisciplinary research while social sciences are moving in another, opposite direction.
P.S. Of course, I understand that there can be certain specialised interdisciplinary articles, but as I find, they are more exceptions, but not the rule.
There is common problem within almost all disciplines. Increase of the knowledge and experience is so quick, that e.g. no one can afford for reading current articles concerning brain indexed in PubMed database (approx. 64 000 articles in 2013, total number is 1 470 000 articles with keyword "brain" since 1809). So narrow specialization is neccesary. Thus interdisciplinary research tend towards close cooperation of narrow specialists. Moreover high impact of IT (including statistical analysis software, data analysis, and data mining solutions) and engineering cause this cooperation even more challenging. But there is nor alternative - it seems development of science will be quicker in the future.

So, it will mean that specialized scientists will form their clans and closed organizations (what they are doing also now). What about democracy, transparency and popularization of such science? How they will reach other people? Or will they be accountant to only closed clans of politicians or managers?
