Dear Mr. Yagodin,

Thank you for the information regarding the successful prediction of the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano. This came as a complete surprise to me, as previously, to my knowledge, volcanic eruptions were only predicted based on observations of local seismicity and “volcanic tremors.” The results obtained allow us to view the nature of the Koyzarev-Yagodin wave in a new light, broadening our understanding of the physical foundations and possibilities of the method you are developing.

It should be noted that the world is currently witnessing active volcanic activity and a constant increase in volcanic hazards. The results obtained demonstrate a close connection between seismicity and volcanism with geodynamic processes in the Earth’s lithosphere and upper mantle. It is especially important now to continue work on the development of global monitoring of the KaY wave.

As a member of the editorial board of the journal "Volcanology and Seismology," I invite you to present information about the prediction of the Shiveluch volcano eruption in our journal.

I wish you success in your research.

Sincerely yours, A. Nikolaev Professor of Geophysics, IFS RAS
