Every research article mention the use of same rumen fluid collection tube after thoroughly washing it with warm water before consecutive sampling as the collection tubes are costly. However, some reviewers say that this practice causes contamination and is not appropriate. Then why all journals accept papers with this method? and what should be the correct method.

It will depend on the kind of study, if you are doing microbial consortium studies the washing procedure could be relevant, but if you only are focused on degradability, rumen pH, VFA, NH3 the washing procedure will not be a problem. Best regards and happy new year,

Also, you can see if after washing the tubes there is any microbial contamination. If so you can use sterilised tube per sample amimal. More regards
