As you can see several equilibria are involved and it is concluded that: “In water CO2 is the predominant species at a pH smaller than 6.33, HCO3- (hydrogen carbonate ion) at a pH in the range of 6.35-10.33, and CO32- (carbonate ion) at a pH higher than 10.33.”
It is a salt. If you acidify it, it will liberate carbonic acid which is unstable and gives CO2. In ammonia it is insoluble (Wikipedia). At high CO2 pressure gives bicarbonate that is more soluble. Solubility is temperature dependent.
