I can think of several reasons that a paper might not be cited even if the quality of the work is at an acceptable level. The paper may be in a very narrow field of study in which there are few papers published on a regular basis. This will reduce the citation count. A paper may be published in a journal that is poorly indexed so that the paper is hard for other researchers to locate it. This also will reduce the citation count. Some researchers seem to prefer "cute" rather than descriptive titles so that it is easy for other researchers to overlook the paper in a literature review. Abstracts are often inadequate, providing less information about the results of a paper than is wise. This will result in lower citation counts as it is more difficult for other researchers to easily access the findings. Finally, some fields of study seem to develop citations at a slower pace than others which can make a paper appear to be uncited when it has simply not been available long enough to others to find it.

Citation counts are a very crude metric of the quality of a paper, in my view.

I agree with what is mentioned above and I can add that it is important to note that some papers of high quality are published in very well known international journals which sell them online at a certain price. Hence sometimes though the quality of the paper is very good, some researchers are not so willing to spend money to purchase the paper in order to have access to its full content.

I believe so many factors are involved in citation of a paper such as being open access, having a good abstract, choosing appropriate keywords and more.

As Dr.Gamassa mentioned in his last part of answer: "The number of citation is not an indicator of the quality of the paper but it can indicate whether the paper is easily accessible/available to other researchers".

I do not think so, it is not common relationship between citation and quality of paper. For example a paper can have strong content and scientific quality whereas it does not publish in high quality journal.

I think that citations of a paper can not measure the quality of the paper.

In some cases, a paper is cited in a paper due to its significance/application/uses in the later. However, in many cases, papers are cited in a paper only with the objective of increasing the number of references in the later. I have observed this in the case of many papers.

Therefore, Number of citations of a paper can not be treated as a measure of the quality of the paper.

It is one of the indicators, but sometimes it is just good title or trendy keywords.

I do also assess that the number of readers is more important than the number of citations.

I have also observed in many cases that some authors take the same idea of one paper but don't cite it.

My view is

"More number of reads of a paper implies more uses of the paper carrying more significance."

However, it may not be valid in the case of original research.

As a new researcher, I'm yet to get a citation from another her published work. This does not imply that my work was of little importance to the scientific community. I have few followers right now and my work may not be the first to be displayed by search engines. I know definitely with time. I will have more audience and even my early publication will be reviewed by other.

So, as long as another has read and learnt from your idea, that is enough credit to any work.

I have also yet not get sufficient citations like yours. I have got only 525 citations till this moment. However, I have got 1086 recommendations , 639.5 research interest and 194,350 reads till this moment.

I am also of the view that since so many readers have read my research items , it is a reward/credit to my research works.
