Many academicians admit that statistics is a branch of political science.

Some academicians want to say that statistics is a branch of economics while some academicians say that statistics is a branch of social science.

Again, as per the opinion of many other academicians , statistics is a branch of mathematics. According to them, statistics is nothing but applied mathematics.

On the other hand, majority of the statisticians comment that statistics is an independent branch of science and it is based on its own philosophy.

Thus, there is difference among the opinions of the academicians regarding the identity of statistics.

This difference among the opinions of the academicians can be eliminated if some definition of statistics can be found which is correct & complete.

As such there is necessity of extracting or establishing the truth regarding the identity of statistics as well as the correct & complete definition of statistics.

Thus, the question is :

" What is the true or the actual identity of statistics ? "
