For most carbon materials (Graphene, Graphene oxide, graphite oxide etc). we have combination of D-band (1350 cm-1), G-band (1580 cm-1) and G*-band (2700 cm-1) peaks of different ratios.
For the GQDs many publication presents clear G and D band, but few mentions no obvious Raman peaks Citing poor crystallinity . (Nano Research 2015, 8(9): 2810–2821 DOI 10.1007/s12274-015-0786-y).
can anyone clarify whether we can obtain a clear RAMAN Spectra, and how to prepare sample and which laser source to be preferably used for the GQDs made by carbonization of Citric acid
Graphene quantum dots show good Raman signals especially in the D and G band, but the intensity and location of signals is size dependent. Whereas 'carbon dots' show weak Raman peaks, typically that of disordered amorphous carbons. Carbonization of CA will most likely be carbon dots..

Indeed with the Carbonization of CA we get carbon dots which is mostly soluble (dispersed) in Ethanol and very well in water.
But Carbonization of CA also produce GQD (conclusion just by my Raman data).
these GQDs were separated (as precipitate) from the as prepared (hydrothermal of CA) solution by adding 10 fold Ethanol and doing centrifuge.

So does it means that carbon dots are soluble in ethanol where as GQDs are insoluble in water.??
