what is the parent strain for Escherichia Coli DH5alpha and does it have F plasmid?
Its a F- strain. its parent strain is DH1 and both derived fron MG1655 strain.
The original strain was described by Meselson , Nature 1968 (PMID 4868368).
DH5alpha was turned to DH10Beta and commercialized as TOP10 By invitrogen.
The original strain was cured of Lamda phage by UV light and then cured of F plasmid by acridine orange
Here a list of E. coli strains used
