Dear Dainius, let me know more about your experimental design. What is the source of your CD8+ cells (MNC, cell line, clone?) What is activation (infection, anti-CD3, mitogen, antigen-loaded APC, peptide, allogenic cells?) How long time after activation is required to observe the effect?
Dear Dmitry, we observe loss of CD28 and acquisition of CD57 on CD8+ T cells in humans. It is not only our observation, but it is described in literature.
I have just found an article describing the association of lower CD57+ frequencies in CD28-CD8+ T cells to higher mortality in HIV-infected patients. This suggests that CD57 might be functionally important, although the observed association could be indirect because of a lot of other factors involved in the effector T-cell function. It should be interesting to investigate the function of CD57 in T cells.
